I spent my whole life enjoying the outdoors, especially fishing. Growing up in Crown Point, Indiana my opportunities to go ice fishing were few and far between. As an adult I came up to Minnesota to help build a house, and I was hooked. I loved it here and wanted to spend the rest of my life in Northern Minnesota, fishing, hunting, foraging, and playing hockey.
Eventually, I was able to move north working construction, and owning my own contracting company. Every chance I got, I would fish. With that came trying different equiptment, all with the promise to help me catch bigger fish, more fish, and so on. I tried it all, and with each product I liked, there was a list of things that annoyed me about it. I would modify it and use it, until something "better" would come along and replace it.
In December of 2022, as I sat in my favorite place, using the latest product that made all the promises, I started thinking about what irritated me about the different equiptment I've used, and I started putting together in my mind what is now the Ice Pirate. Went home and put together the first of many Ice Pirate prototypes. I was thrilled how well it worked! After several more prototypes I had the version we decided was ready for a patent. We went patent pending in October 2023 and released it for sale in November 2023.
Since then I have continued to work on other products that will help other avid anglers like myself enjoy fishing without so much frustration.
With the Pirate it doesn't matter if the kids kill the bait. Or, if you choose to just put on a large dead bait. The Pirate has a sail, that catches the wind, and the rod in the holder is on a piece of spring steal, so it jigs your bait for you. This really helps you catch bigger fish
One of my favorite features, is that it really makes taking the kids fishing so much more enjoyable. Seems to me, kids don't like fishing, they like catching. Other then when they are doing the perch jerk, as my kids like to call it, they want to play. They want to build forts, watch movies, play games, eat, and so on. But, holding a pole for more then a few minutes without a bite forget it! I had missing rods, stepped on rods, rods down the hole. With the Ice Pirates, they put the rod in the holder, up out of the ice and snow, and just go play. The Pirate is so simple to use, they all set up their own and reel in their own fish. Making it a much more fun for all of us!
